Daryl V. Storrs
I have been making prints since 1978. First introduced to etching in college, I loved the various steps involved in creating a metal plate. The ability to make multiple works of art also appealed to my practical side. After college I apprenticed with Sabra Field and learned about woodcuts and the business of art. I was inspired to return to school after two years of working and earned a masters in printmaking from UMass in Amherst.
Returning to Vermont, I waitressed briefly to pay the bills. I started to make paper earrings and began to sell them to customers when they saw me wearing them in the restaurant. This began the jewelry business and thankfully ended my waitressing career. During this time, I applied to the MacDowell Colony in Peterborough NH and was awarded a six-week printmaking residency. I began participating in up to 12 art and craft shows a year, as far west as Chicago, but mostly staying within the New England and NY/NJ areas. More recently I have traveled less far and frequently, adding a few more galleries to my list.
I moved to Huntington Vermont in 1990 and renovated an old barn next to my house which now serves as a beautiful studio. My time is divided between making woodcuts, jewelry, and pastels which all focus on the Vermont landscape.
